Family Diabetes Camp Amidst COVID-19: A Community of Practice Model

Studies have found that youth are experiencing higher anxiety levels than prior to COVID-19, and with type 1 diabetes at risk. Medical specialty camps a of camp provide opportunities for chronic illnesses share common goals, increase socialization, improve camper well-being, knowledge management. The program evaluation sought determine the impact campers’ outcomes independence perceived competence familial during COVID-19. Over half participants were their first 71% campers felt “increased little bit” because camp. 95% parents participation in had increased knowledge. Qualitative data from revealed 2 themes, as meeting place learning others. findings this study demonstrate medical influence perceptions families play an important role creating community practice.
